FORMER Barrow Raiders loan signing Jermaine McGillvary is among the 24 players named in Wayne Bennett's England squad for the upcoming Ladbrokes Four Nations.

Huddersfield Giants winger McGillvary, who spent 11 games on loan at Craven Park in 2010 and scored eight tries, retains his place in the squad after making his international bow in last year's Test series win over New Zealand.

New England head coach Bennett has called four uncapped players into the team as well, with St Helens duo Jonny Lomax and Mark Percival. Hull FC's Scott Taylor and Castleford Tigers half-back Luke Gale all vying for starting places.

Sam Burgess make his return to the England set-up after switching back from rugby union last year, but skipper Sean O'Loughlin and Sam Tomkins are among those to miss out due to injury.

“There’s been a lot of competition for places this year and the players that have been picked are the ones we believe will stand up to the test of the competing nations,” said Bennett.

“I’ve always said that there wouldn’t be too many changes when I arrived and there are plenty of guys in the squad who worked hard in last year’s International Series win against New Zealand who have gone on and performed in 2016.

“To have Sam Burgess back is not just a boost for England but one for the international game. Having worked with him in the past, he’s a great bloke to have around and have by your shoulder on the field.

“Injuries are part and parcel of the game and to lose players like O’Loughlin, Tomkins and (Ben) Currie isn’t ideal, but it does offer opportunities to others who have performed in the year and it’s good to see some new and returning faces in the squad.”

Bennett's first chance to see his team in match action comes on October 22 when England play France in Avignon, with their Four Nations campaign kicking off against New Zealand in Huddersfield the following week.

Meanwhile, Barrow's Shane Toal will find out tomorrow whether or not Scotland head coach and former Raiders boss Steve McCormack has picked him in the Bravehearts' squad for the tournament as well.

But former Barrow Island junior Morgan Knowles has not been include in Wales' 22-man squad for their 2017 Rugby League World Cup qualifier against Serbia this Saturday, having been in the initial 29-man train-on squad.
