ASKAM RL’s junior section are celebrating after receiving a welcome sponsorship boost.

The Fallowfield Park club have seen local firm Joss Engineering provide training tops for youth players throughout their age spectrum.

Askam run teams at all age levels from under-sevens up to under-16s, with close to 60 players split between the sides and girls involved up to under-10s level.

The Villagers have produced youth players who have gone on to receive international honours – the most recent being Castleford Tigers youngster Jacques O’Neill – as well providing members of local amateur and professional sides.

Askam’s youth section is run on a volunteer basis and relies on donations such as those from Joss Engineering.

The company’s managing director Russ Richards was happy to be able to help the club, and said: “As a local engineering company, we are keen to support community projects and are proud to help local children.”

Askam’s Sean McCullough added: “The sponsorship money allows all of the youth players to share a common identity, association and pride in the club, which we feel is very important as they mature into confident young adults.”

The Villagers are recruiting players of all abilities and ages for the 2016 season. They will be running taster days in local schools from September and are seeking additional sponsorship to maintain the youth section. Anyone interested in joining the club as a junior player can attend training sessions on Friday evenings at Fallowfield Park. The club can also be contacted on 07889 669532.
