BARROW AFC boss Stephen Clemence says everyone at the club is frustrated at the club’s recent run of league results.
But he insists things aren’t as bad as some may feel, and he’s confident that an upturn in fortunes isn’t too far away.
He told The Mail: “I think we’ve got to sort of remember where we are at a little bit.
“Obviously, there’s been a little bit of doom and gloom around, but we’ve only lost one game in the last five.
“Of course, we’d have liked some of those to be victories and I think because we’ve let in goals late on it sort of magnifies things a little bit.
“It always feels worse when late goals go in against you, just like it always feels better when late goals go in for you.
“The feelings are a lot stronger for supporters, for players, for myself, everybody.
“So, I totally understand it, and I wish it hadn’t happened (conceding late on), and I get it.
“I understand the frustration of supporters and believe you and me, we as staff and as players are just as frustrated.
“We are doing our utmost to make sure it doesn’t happen in the future and hopefully as the season goes on, we are the ones scoring the late goals.
“I think at the start of the season we scored a number of goals ourselves in the second half. More recently we haven’t done that, but I’m sure it will come again.”
Clemence is well aware that conceding late on is something the Bluebirds need to try to cut out.
But he also points out that things may not be as bad as they seem.
He added: “I think we are two or three points off being in the play-offs.
“I think we are probably only four or five points off being in the automatic spots.
“We are not a million miles away. If we had hung on for the win last weekend we’d have been in the play-off spots.
“Of course, we’ve been frustrated, fans have been frustrated, but we are all in this together
“For large parts of these games we have been beating some good teams. Obviously, we haven’t held out at the end for whatever reason.
“And we’ve spoken about that, and we’ve got some ideas that may help us with that.
“We’ve showed the lads where we think we can improve, so it doesn’t happen again.
“But we’ve got to try to get that second goal when we are ahead, and that’s the message.
“We will keep trying to push on, and the lads will come out of this little spell, I’ve got no doubt about it.
“I will certainly keep believing in them, keep believing in what we are doing and hopefully it won’t be too long before we go on another of those runs.”
