BARROW AFC head coach Stephen Clemence will lock horns with someone from his playing days when AFC Wimbledon come to Holker Street today.

The Bluebirds boss and Dons gaffer Johnnie Jackson were both at Tottenham as players although in different age groups and stages of their career.

But Clemence says he knows the Wimbledon boss and what to expect from his team.

He said: “Wimbledon are a very good team, and have a very good manager in Johnnie Jackson.

“He was two or three years younger than me at Tottenham, so I know him well

“They’ve been building a team there now for what I think is now Johnnie’s third season

“I played against them last year a couple of times, and I thought they were a very hard-working team.

“They are very well organised difficult to break down.

“They have some good attacking threats, and are also very good on set plays, so they are going to be a threat, and we have to be ready for it.”

While expecting another tough test on home turf, Clemence says his focus is mainly on what his side can deliver at Holker Street.

He added: “I go into every game worrying more about us than the opposition.

“Of course, I always respect the opposition, but I’ll be looking to exploit any gaps and weaknesses they have in their system

“If we play as well as we can, I am expecting Wimbledon to have a very tough time.

“I believe in the lads and I believe in what we are trying to do, and I know that things will turn, hopefully that will be today against Wimbledon.”
