BARROW AFC head coach Stephen Clemence knows that results have been hard to come by of late.

And while the Bluebirds are working hard to turn things around, Clemence is quick to point out there’s no need to panic.

Barrow have just one win in the last 10 matches in all competitions, but Clemence is backing his side to come good and turn it around.

He told The Mail: “I think it is difficult for everyone at the moment where we haven’t got results, but what I do believe, the boys, the effort they are putting in and how they are playing eventually it must turn for them and hopeful it’s going to happen this weekend.”

The Bluebirds need to rediscover their early goalscoring form, and there might not be a better time to that than when Colchester United visit Holker Street today (kick-off 3pm).

The U’s themselves struggling at the wrong end of the table and have conceded 20 league goals so far this term.

But Clemence isn’t taking anything for granted and knows hard work is needed to turn opportunities into goals.

He added: “I think the hardest thing to coach is scoring goals.

“I think the easiest thing is to set up a team to be difficult to beat and to put yourself in a mid block or a deep block and to try to play on the counter-attack.

“To try to coach your team to play on the front foot and to score goals is probably the most difficult.

“But like I keep saying I don’t think we are a million miles off.

“I do think we can improve, but I thought we could get better when we’re winning games.

We go through every game and look at the good things and the things we can do better in football and that doesn’t change whether we are winning games or now when we haven’t been getting results.

“We are still trying to get better, but what we are not doing is overthinking things where we have got to rip up the whole season so far, because there has been a lot of good play.

“So, we are just fine tuning, and we are giving reminders, and we are telling the boys when the ball is in certain areas where it should be going and when the ball is in those areas where people should be running.

“And just reminders of things we have worked on through the season.

“I think where we are at the moment, and recently, we have missed one or two good opportunities, but we have got into a lot of good areas where you have then got to pick the final pass whether that’s a cross or a shot, or cut back or a dink to the far post.

“Whatever it is, can you just pick that final ball out a little bit better? And I think that’s where we can improve.

“But there’s a lot of good stuff going on. If we are not top, we are second-top best defence in the league. We are getting into good areas, and we will get better as the season goes on.”
