LET’S show them what we are about – that’s the rallying cry from Barrow AFC head coach Stephen Clemence ahead of tonight’s home game.
The Bluebirds host Notts County at Holker Street this evening on the back of a recent run of bad results.
But Clemence it is the ideal opportunity to show just how good they can be.
He told the club’s official YouTube channel: “We have a choice at the minute to either all feel sorry for ourselves or think no, right come on we are actually a good team.
“We’ve got a chance to play tonight against Notts County, yeah OK they are a good team too, let’s go and take them on and show people what we’re about.
“In a season, if you are going to be successful, there are going to be ups and downs.
“And yeah, we haven’t been great lately, we haven’t played as well as we can do.
“We haven’t been that bad either. We’ve been a bit unfortunate, and we have got to make sure we go out tonight and make sure we get some points again.”
Clemence isn’t trying to hide away from results or performances of late, but he doesn’t think things are disastrous either.
He explained: “I think we started the season ever so well, there’s no hiding away from that.
“And I think if we had been a bit more inconsistent from the start going through to where we are now, rather than being really good to all of a sudden being quite disappointing recently, I think we’d all be quite happy to be sitting where we are in the table at this stage of the season.
“What’s disappointing is obviously the run of games we’ve had recently.
“Now the teams we have been playing recently have been a different challenge to us.
“They’ve set up very differently to the ones we played at the start of the season.
“The ones at the start of the season I felt went toe-to-toe with us, probably left us more space to go and attack and go and try to score goals.
“The ones we’ve played recently have set out to stop us, and they’ve put back fives in, tried to slow the game down, made it a bit of a nasty game, tried to ruin our rhythm, and it’s been difficult.
“Obviously, those games will come round again and we have to try to find answers to these questions that are put in front of us.
“I don’t expect tonight’s game to be like that. I expect Notts County to try to dominate possession, try to attack us and I think it will be a very good test for us.
“But I do expect that when we get the ball there will space for us too, and we’ve got to try to make sure when we get our opportunities, we try to take them on.
“It will be a tough challenge facing Notts County, obviously they are a big team in our division.
“They are a good team, very well coached, and they are doing very well this season.
“But we are looking forward to it, especially after getting beat at weekend, it’s nice to have a game come around quickly where we get the chance to put it right.”
“Obviously, those games will come round again and we have to try to find answers to these questions that are put in front of us.
