OUTSIDE back Shane Toal has agreed to extend his stay with Barrow Raiders.

Toal, who recently completed his 10th season at the club, has signed a new deal that will see him remain at the club until at least the end of the 2026 campaign.

And on top of that he has been granted a testimonial by the Rugby Football League for his services to the sport.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Toal said: “I’m over the moon to have signed for another two years at Barrow.

“I am also looking forward to what will be a memorable 11th season in a Barrow Raiders shirt, having been granted my testimonial.

“It’s time for a bit of rest now before getting stuck into another pre-season. Roll on 2025!”

Barrow Raiders head coach Paul Crarey said: “It’s fantastic news that we have managed to get Shane Toal on board again for next season.

“He is another local lad in our squad who is very consistent and covers both centre and wing positions.

“Shane has played with a lot of niggling injuries this year, but he has always put his hand up to play. With a big pre-season behind him, I’m confident he can get back to his dynamic best.

“He is a class act with a top attitude, and yet another example of the type of player we want at the club.”

Director of rugby Andy Gaffney said: “Over the years, Shane has proven his worth and shown exactly why everyone at the club rates him so highly.

“Injuries prevented Shane from hitting the heights he might have wanted this year, but these next few weeks will allow him to recover fully and get ready for another big season in 2025.

“I am thrilled to see Shane earn the recognition of a testimonial year, as he is an incredible competitor on the field and model professional off it.

“He has already enjoyed some real highs in Raiders colours, and we hope for more of the same in the years ahead.”

Toal, 28, has made 158 appearances during his time at the Raiders, scoring 78 tries.

This included a two-year spell in 2017 and 2018 where he crossed 36 times in 44 games.

The Scotland international made 18 appearances last season, adding an extra four tries to his already-impressive scoring tally.

Toal has been a fan favourite for many seasons, and the club are excited to share in his testimonial celebrations, which will begin on January 1.

Events to commemorate Toal’s testimonial will be announced by the club in due course.
