BARROW AFC midfielder Elliot Newby says they can’t dwell on the disappointment of the weekend’s derby defeat.
The Bluebirds suffered a 1-0 loss to Morecambe at Holker Street – a result which saw them drop to sixth place in the League Two table.
But things are so tight at the top of the division they are only two points off first place.
And rather than worry about what has gone, Newby says it’s about focusing on what’s next – a 12.30pm kick-off away to Accrington Stanley on Saturday.
Speaking to the club’s official website, he said: “We got to (dust ourselves down and go again) really fast.
“Obviously, we owe it to the fans who came out and were really supportive, trying to push us to get that winner and equaliser.
“There’s a lot more to give from this team. We’ve got quality players in the team, and we remain confident.”
Barrow had to battle against some tough windy conditions at the weekend, but Newby says the result was down to them and not the weather conditions.
He added: “It was a tough game. I don’t think we quite grasped the conditions properly.
“I think we played into their hands a little bit, even though I think we still should have probably come away from the game with something.
“But you know, if you don’t take your chances and you switch off at the back that’s going to happen.
“I thought we did pretty well first half (against the wind), or the best we could really. I thought we had good control of the game.
“And then second half I thought we started quite brightly, we just stopped doing the right thing really.
“We can’t blame the wind. It was the same for both teams. They adapted slightly better to the conditions, so it’s about us, it’s on us.
“We’ve got to try to work out different ways of getting in and being a bit more of a threat when the other teams is kind of sat in and conditions are like that.
“I thought they did well, their shape was quite tight, but again it’s up to us. We’ve got enough quality players in the team to figure out a way of getting in, a way of creating chances.
“We did create some chances, but we weren’t quite clinical enough to score.
“We were the team on top, looking to go and win, which we kind of expected to be in the second half.
“We were the ones applying the pressure, but you’ve got to take that chance when it comes.
“When you ware on top you’ve got to make it count when you are in that final third and we didn’t do that.”
