BARROW Raiders have penned a new two-year contract for their stalwart full-back Luke Cresswell which will see him complete a decade of service for the club.

The deal will keep the 29-year-old at the Northern Competitions Stadium until at least the end of the 2026 season.

Last season, Cresswell played in every competitive game for Paul Crarey’s side, scoring 10 tries in 30 appearances. That tally included a hat-trick against Halifax Panthers in June – just the fourth of his senior career.

Over the last nine years, Creswell has featured in 147 games, crossing on 59 occasions.

Speaking to the Club website about the new deal, Cresswell said: “I am really pleased. The club has come a long way in the nine years I have been here, and I want to be a part of the future and help it grow even more.

“I’m a local lad who grew up supporting the Raiders, so to be able to play for them is a dream come true. I’m fortunate to have created so many memories, and I’m sure there’ll be more given where the club is going.”

Barrow Raiders head coach Paul Crarey said: “Luke Cresswell, along with Jarrad Stack, has been the most consistently good player of the last five seasons, if not longer.

“It is fantastic news to have another one of our own locally produced players back on board for next season, as Luke is an example to professional rugby league players at all levels.

“Last season he played big minutes for us, and that’s a testament to the dedication and toughness he possesses.

“We are sure he will give everything for the team again next season.”

Director of rugby Andy Gaffney said: “Luke has been one of our standout players for a few seasons now, so we’re delighted to have agreed this new deal.

“We’ve seen him progress from a young up-and-comer to a fan favourite, and he still has a lot to offer us moving forward.

“We can’t wait to see him continue to improve at his boyhood club.”
