A DEPLETED Barrow side were not disgraced against the Championship leaders, who are set to return to Super-League next season.

Raiders head coach Paul Crarey fielded a patched up 17 players for their final away game of the season with one eye on this Sunday's home game with Widnes.

A host of players were either injured or rested - Luke Broadbent, Tom Walker, James Greenwood, Andrew Bulman, Ryan Johnston, Matty Costello, Charlie Emslie, Ellis Gillam and Ramon Silva were all missing.

Crarey brought in local amateurs Finn Dutton-Rosconie, Max Anderson-Moore, both Barrow Island, and Millom’s Connor Terrill.

Crarey said after the game: “I have nothing but praise for those lads who were on duty, all those players missing, and three local lads coming in.

“Ryan Johnston pulled out after taking part in the pre-match build-up with a nagging calf strain.

“We didn't want to gamble, so threw young Moore into the half-back role, allong with Rosconie and Terrill.

“They all did me proud against a full-time side.

“They caught us out a few times. They are a quick side, scoring 24 points in the first half then 22 in the second half.

“Rosconie was thrust into action early when Aaron Smith had to come off with a broken nose for a HIA (Head Injury Assessment) he passed the test and came back on.

“Jarrad Stack also came off with a wrist injury, so we were up against it.

“So, all credit to the lads.”

The home side were soon up and running when Lachlan Walmsley rose high to gather a kick and send Jay Pitts over the line, Max Jowitt adding the goal 6-0.

Minutes later Smith left the field for debutant Rosconie to take his place.

On nine minutes the scoreline doubled following Brad Walker failing to make touch from a tap penalty.

Wakefield went downfield at speed for Rodwell to score, Jowitt adding the goal 12-0.

It was Jowitt who was soon crossing for try number three which he improved for 18-0.

And 22 minutes in, and Oliver Pratt sold a dummy to go in at the corner, Jowitt adding the extra two points 24-0.

Barrow put in some good defensive work for the remaining 18 minutes to keep the home side at bay.

However, seven minutes into the second half, Pratt broke from inside his own half to race to the line with defenders in pursuit, but he managed to score, Jowitt adding the goal 30-0.

On a rare threat on the Wakefield line Walmsley intercepted to go the length of the field, defenders gave chase to halt him short of the line, but on his shoulder was Pratt to complete his hat-trick, Jowitt once more on target 36-0.

Jowitt then went over in the corner only to miss his first kick of the game 40-0, and to round off the scoring neat foot work saw Walmsley dot the ball down for Jowitt to convert.
