BOSS Stephen Clemence believes the floodgates will open for Barrow once they find their ruthless edge.

The Bluebirds created a whole host of chances during their 2-0 victory against Newport County at Holker Street.

Elliot Newby opened his account for the club, whilst Theo Vassell grabbed a late second as the Cumbrian club went top of League Two.

But despite sitting at the summit with a quiet belief building among the club, Clemence wants his charges to keep going about their business with minimal fuss.

“There have been lots of good performances this season,” reflected Clemence.

"I can only think of one or two halves of football when we haven’t been fully at it.

“I thought the boys were really effective. It was difficult to get through Newport because they showed us a lot of respect with their formation and game plan.

“We had to find those solutions and keep knocking on the door.

“I would worry more about the team if we weren’t creating chances.

“We have scored a few goals, we put four past Port Vale not so long ago.

“We are capable of scoring and I’m sure if we keep performing the way we are then those days will come again.

“We have to remember what has got us to this point. There are only seven games gone.

“There has been a lot of togetherness. We’ve got to keep coming up with the game plans and the boys carry it out.

“I’ve got very good football players in my squad and they’re a pleasure to work with every day.

“I didn’t think Newport troubled us much. Paul Farman didn’t have much to do and that’s testament to all of the boys, starting with Ged Garner up front.

“It was a real good team performance.”

Winger Newby got on the end of Katia Kouyate’s cross from the left-hand side as poked home at the back post on the slide.

It was his first goal since scoring in four successive appearances for Altrincham in November and December 2022, just before his move to Holker Street in January.

And now he is off the mark, Clemence believes he will be a regular goal scorer for the club.

“I’m really pleased for Elliot Newby,” he added. "I know it’s been a while for him.

“When you have your left winger crossing it to your right winger, I think it’s a really good goal.

“I know it’s been a long time since Newbs has scored, but I would say in every game he’s played this season he’s looked a threat.

“I’m telling you he will score more goals this season.

“Hopefully the shackles will come off him and he will score plenty more. I see it in training, he’s a good finisher and he works on it all the time.

“He’s a dedicated finisher and I’m sure he’ll end up with a lot more now.”
