IT’S a big weekend for three local teams as they all bid to reach the finals of the top four play-offs.
Dalton, Askam and Hindpool all have home advantage with Dalton and Hindpool confirmed as League leaders of Division One and Two respectively of the North West Men's Leagues.
Askam have had a good season after reforming, playing in Division One of the Cumberland League.
Kelland Park is the venue for the visit of Wigan St Cuthbert’s in what could be a close encounter.
Dave High’s team have lost only once this season in the league, that was against the St Cuthbert's away when they travelled with only 13 players losing 28-16.
They were successful at home with a 30-8 victory, and will have a strong team on the park with the return of Dec Gavin, Sam Atkinson and Harry Gordon.
Dalton have been in good form of late without key players Ryan Baines and Jack Crarey, and have worked hard in training this week.
Cuthbert’s are currently on a nine-game unbeaten run.
Brisbane Park is the venue for the visit of Newton Storms and Hindpool coach Kev Kyte predicts a tough game against a big and aggressive Storms outfit.
Kyte said: “We know what we are facing, but we will go into the game with confidence after we did the double over them in the regular season.”
The Tigers are a team in form with only one league defeat, and have gone far beyond expectations this season under Kyte.
They play fast attractive rugby with threats from all over the park, while defensive-wise they are quite solid.
Unavailable are Jamie McIlroy and Daryl Archer while Lewis Sayle is injured.
Chris Broadley has done a tremendous job at Fallowfield Park where Askam take on Distington “A” who they defeated three weeks ago 34-26.
Askam had fallen from grace in recent years following good years in the National Conference then struggling in the Barrow and District League.
However, this season, they have regrouped and have settled nicely into the Cumberland League’s First Division where they finished second.
Not on the team-sheet are Luke McIntee, Brad Jackson and Chris Tyson, but back in contention are Joey Blowers, Ellis Fagan and Dylan Barrow. Kick off 1-30pm.
