ROOSE Pioneers rounded off their season in Division Two of the North West Men’s League with a 30-22 victory over a big Waterhead ‘A’ team at Redwaters. However, they failed in their bid to reach the play-offs finishing in fifth position, losing out on points difference. Tries came from Ricky Donaghue (2), Tom Farren, Ethan Bowness, and veteran Glenn Phillips with Sam Beattie adding five goals. Waterhead voted Beattie as Pioneers man-of-the-match, while Pioneers’ players gave the accolade to Bowness. In the Cumberland League, Askam, despite losing 40-24 to Hensingham ‘A’ have made the play-offs after finishing second in the table. Their play-off clash is at home to Distington ‘A’ on Saturday. Askam went in at the break leading 18-16 with tries from Dale Lambton, Rob Cockayne and Luke McIntee with three goals from Lewis Stables. However, Hensingham stepped up a gear in the second half to run in a further 24 points. Askam replied with a second try from Lambton converted by Stables. In form Luke Bolton took the man-of-the-match award for the second week running. This Saturday in the Division One play-offs, top- of-the-table Dalton take on Wigan St Cuthbert’s at Kelland Park. In Division Two, leaders Hindpool Tigers take on Newton Storm at Brisbane Park. Ulverston missed out in Division One play-offs finishing sixth
