BARROW AFC midfielder Sam Foley joked that his former team-mate helping kick rather than a helping hand in Saturday’s victory over Grimsby Town.

Former Bluebird Tyrell Warren left his mark on Foley with a kick that left him with a sore ankle and off the field.

But while he could well have done without wearing one from his former team-mate, it all worked out pretty well as the 37-year-old found the net straight after to put Barrow in front.

Foley told the club’s official YouTube Channel: “It’s a bit sore (the ankle), I think it will be sore for a few days.

“I think it was Ty Warren, so I think he was targeting me. He could have just told me that my sense of humour is not the best rather than kicking me, but I’m sure he didn’t mean it.

“So yeah, it is quite sore, but that gave me the element of surprise because I came back on, wasn’t marked and ghosted into the middle of the box

“So yeah, sore ankle, but it worked out well.”

Foley was quick to pay tribute to Barrow team-mate Ben Jackson’s whose corner was perfect for him to head home.

He added: “I had to job to do to get in the box. My primary job in there was to kind of be a bit of distraction and it just so happened it fell for me right on my head

“His (Jackson’s) delivery has been superb. We are a real threat from set pieces at the minute, and it’s down to his delivery.

“I think at this level games are won in both boxes with set-pieces whether it’s good play of poor play.

“I think there’s mistakes and then there’s good play at the same time, and (against The Mariners) we scored both our goals from set-pieces, so the game has been won by set-pieces and when you’ve got a delivery like Jacko’s when people are able to get on the end of it, it is always a massive bonus.”
