BARROW Island escaped relegation to Division Three of the National Conference following their 34-12 win over Thornhill Trojans at the John Jefferson Stadium.

However, their victory and Millom’s 26-18 loss at Pilkington Recs saw the Woolybacks demoted.

Both teams required wins to help in their quest to avoid the drop, and the Island had to turn up the gas in the second half with the scores level 12-12 at half time.

The Trojans opened the scoring with an unconverted try from Jordan Edwards on four minutes.

It took the Island a further 21 minutes before going ahead with a try from Aide Wright converted by Sam Jones 6-4.

Island soon increased their lead with a Dec Baines try and Jones conversion 12-4.

The Trojans hit back with a Josh Richter try and two goals from Joel Gibson to make it 12-12 at the break.

Island took a firm grip in the second period - Aide Wright crossing for a second try, was soon followed over the whitewash by Adam Ford and Ian Irvine with one goal from Jones 26-12.

Jones added a penalty for 28-12 before victory was sealed with Seth Woodend touching down for a try converted by Jones 34-12.

Millom’s hopes were dashed at Pilkington Recs who survived the drop with a 38–24 victory after being ahead 26-6 at the break.

The home side were soon into their stride, and built up an early 18-0 lead as the Woolybacks found it hard to keep in touch.

Millom put up a better showing in the second half, but their efforts were all in vain.

Tries came from Evan Kyle, Tom Askew, Evan Jackson, Kia McPherson and Rio McQuiston with one goal from Jack Newbiggin.

Ulverston left it late for their win over Golborne Parkside away from home as they trailed 0-10 going into the last 10 minutes.

Late tries from Liam Saunders and Matt Storey, plus two goals from Marc Storey sealed victory.

It was a hard-earned win as they travelled with only 13 players.

Roose Pioneers went down 32-24 at Newton Storms.

They were ahead 24-22 with the game going into the final five minutes, but conceded a further 10 points, a break-away try and one from close range.

Pioneers put in a good performance, and their tries came from Grant Robinson (2), Glen Phillips and Sam Beattie, who added four goals.

Dalton's home game with Thatto Heath ‘A; failed to take place, the St Helens saying they were unable to field a side.

In the Cumberland League’s First Division, Askam came out on top against Distington ‘A’ 34-26.

Tries came from Dale Lambton, Joey Blowers, Dylan Barrow, Ollie Guest, Luke McIntee and Luke Bolton, with five goals from Lewis Stables.
