BARROW AFC have strengthened their squad with the deadline day signing of forward Chris Popov from Premier League side Leicester City.

The Bluebirds have brought in the Wales youth international on loan until the end of the season.

A statement on the club’s official website read: “we’re delighted to announce the signing of versatile forward, Chris Popov on a season-long loan from Premier League side Leicester City.”

The 19-year-old can will add to head coach Stephen Clemence’s attacking options as he can play anywhere across the frontline, although he has spent most of his time with the Foxes occupying roles out wide on the right or through the middle.

The young forward is known for cutting onto his favoured left foot while playing out on the right wing and you can expect a high work rate from our new signing who will constantly be flying down the right wing.

Popov previously had spells at the academy set-ups at Manchester United, Everton, and Cardiff City.

Unfortunately for Clemence, the youngster won’t be available for the Cumbrians Carabao Cup clash with Premier League giants Chelsea.

The forward made his Leicester first-team debut on Tuesday night when he came off the bench during the Foxes’ 4-0 win against Tranmere Rovers in the Carabao Cup Second Round, which means he is cup tied for the trip to Stamford Bridge.

Popov boasts an impressive record at youth level, having represented the Wales youth team 25 times since under 15s level, with seven of those appearances coming in Cymru’s u21s side.
