SKIPPER Sam “The Man” Jones sealed a vital 18-16 victory at Millom with a late penalty goal.

The win takes Barrow Island into fourth-bottom position in the Conference Second Division.

They leapfrog over their Cumbrian neighbours as both teams' survival bids continue.

It was nip and tuck throughout with Millom taking a 6-0 lead with a try from Connor Terrill converted by Lee Postlethwaite.

The Island drew level with a Josh McBain try converted by Jones to make it 6-6 at half-time.

Rio McQuiston edged the Woolybacks back into the lead with an unconverted try 10-6.

Josh Blinkhorn crossed for a try minutes later with Postlethwaite adding the goal for 16-6.

Island, not to be outdone, came back with a Seth Woodend try 16-10 prior to Finn Dutton touching down for Jones to level the scores at 16-16 with the conversion.

And it was the boot of Jones that secured the points and revenge for a defeat in the home fixture with the Woolybacks.

In the North West Men's Leagues Second Division, Hindpool Tigers unbeaten league record came to an end at Leigh Miners ‘A’ losing 26-10.

The Tigers man-of-the-match Paul Rickleton and Connor McDermott crossed for tries with Grant Burns adding one goal.

The Tigers head to Roose Pioneers this weekend.

Pioneers went down 36-16 at Waterhead ‘A’.

It was neck and neck 16-16, but with injuries piling up Pioneers conceded defeat. Tries came from Glen Phillips (2) and Layton Deakin with two goals from Sam Beattie.

Ulverston were on the wrong end of a 28-26 scoreline at Salford City Roosters after trailing 12-4 at the break.

In Division One, Dalton's push for the title continues following their 52-10 win over Chorley Panthers.

Tries came from Owen Bridle (2), Ross Bird (2), Joe Crarey (2), Ben Ashburner, Cavan Armstrong, Dec Gavin and Pat Kelly, who added six goals.
