BARROW AFC new signing Chris Stokes is hopeful he can help the team ‘push one more’ to achieve at least a play-off place this season.

The Bluebirds announced the signing of Stokes yesterday evening on an initial five-month deal following a successful trial period at the club.

The former England international has a wealth of EFL experience having accumulated over 400 appearances at EFL clubs including Coventry City, Stevenage and Morecambe.

Speaking to the club website, he said: “I’m your typical centre half. I love winning duels and an aerial battle. I was a full-back in my younger days, so I still try to get involved and join in when I can.”

Stokes is no stranger to helping teams achieve promotion from League Two.

He helped Coventry to promotion as well as securing the EFL Trophy in the 2016-17 season.

He then helped Bury FC to promotion as they finished second in League Two during the 2018-19 season, making it back-to-back promotions for the 33-year-old.

“Most of the clubs I’ve been at throughout my career have been fighting for promotions,” Stokes added.

“When you start getting to an older age, you look at the teams that want to be successful as you don’t know when your career is going to come to an end. You want to be around teams who are doing well.

“Hopefully we can have another successful season and push one more than what the club did last season. That’s what drives me to keep on going.”
