HINDPOOL Tigers are Division Two champions of the North West Men’s League following their 38-18 victory at Waterhead ‘A’.

The Tigers who travelled without 10 regular first teamers maintained their 100 per cent record with an 11th straight win.

They came up against a big Waterhead side and went ahead on nine minutes.

Rocco Scarponi spotted a gap to race through and dot the ball down from 50 yards out for Connor McDermott to convert 0-6.

This spurred the Tigers on, and they soon doubled their tally when good approach work from Tom Heighton and Paul Rickleton took play deep for Reece Craig to round the full-back to score. McDermott added the extra two- 0-12.

The home side came back with strong attacking play, but the Tigers stood firm in defence and, in a counter-attack, improved their lead when Connor McDermott forced his way over for Grant Burns to convert 0-18 at the break.

The second half was barely underway when 18-year-old Scarponi went in from dummy half, Burns tagging on the goal 0-24, and the title was heading to Brisbane Park.

The home side were constantly under pressure with strong forward play from Sam Turner, Harley Bradley and man-of-the-match Paul Rickleton making inroads into Waterhead’s territory.

Cameron McDermott was next on the scoresheet racing through to score unconverted 0-28.

The home side put points on the board with a converted try prior to substitute Koni Hayes claiming his first try for the club, Burns adding the goal points 6-34

A second converted try for the home side made it 12-34 before smart work in attack enabled Keiron Sharp to go in for try number seven 12-38.

The home side rounded off the afternoon with a third converted try, but it was a jubilant Tigers team and coaches at the final whistle.

Nearest challengers for the title West Bank Bulls were 52-18 winners at Roose Pioneers, but their efforts were all in vain.

Tries for Pioneers came from Euan James, Tom Farren and Mikee Light with three goals from Sam Beattie.

In Division One, Dalton's title hopes are still on track following their 30-4 win over Golborne Parkside after leading 14-4 at the break.

Tries came from Owen Bridle (2), Ross Bird (2), Isaac Barber (2) and Harry Gordon with one goal from Bird.

Dalton are in second place on 23 points with a game in hand on leaders Hindley (24 points).

Ulverston went down 18-26 at home to Westhoughton Lions with tries coming from Liam Saunders, Scott Houston and Jack Aiken with three goals from Marc Storey.

In the Conference Second Division, Barrow Island lost away at Normanton Knights 32-20 going in at the break 20-4 down.

Tries came from Corry Barker (2), Nathan Sneesby and Sam Jones who kicked two goals.

Millom failed to score at Oldham St Anne’s, while conceding 52 points.

This coming Saturday sees an important lower end of the table clash with Millom taking on Barrow Island at Devonshire Road.

Millom are eighth on 14 points while the Island are 10th on 10 points.
