BARROW Raiders have announced the loan signing of Salford Red Devils prop forward Jamie Pye until the end of the season.
The promising and highly-rated 21-year-old is six feet four inches and will be a useful acquisition in Head Coach Paul Crarey’s squad for the last ten games of the season.
Pye signed his first professional contract with the Red Devils last month, having trained with the Betfred Super League side for several months prior.
He also spent time with England’s academy and was selected for their world tour of Australia in 2020, only for it to be unfortunately cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The powerful front-rower will be available to make his Raiders debut on Sunday, as the Raiders welcome Bradford Bulls to the Northern Competitions Stadium.
Speaking to the club website about his loan move, Pye said: “I’m over the moon to get this opportunity to join Barrow.
“I’ve been asking Paul Rowley a lot recently if I can get out on loan. To finally get the deal done, I can’t wait to get started.
“It’s the step for my career I’ve not made yet. I’m eager to get my senior debut boxed off, and ultimately I want to improve myself as a player by playing against other senior players with a lot of experience.”
Barrow Raiders head coach Paul Crarey said: “We are pleased to welcome Jamie Pye into the Raiders family for the remainder of the season.
“Jamie is an outstanding young prospect and comes with big wraps from Paul Rowley and John Fieldhouse from Salford.
“We can't thank Paul and the Red Devils enough for giving us the opportunity to help in the development of one of their top prospects.”
Director of rugby Andy Gaffney said: “We are delighted to bring in such a promising young forward as we push on towards the end of the season.
“The need for eager young forwards is as important as ever, and Jamie is ready to get out there, play and improve, which can only bode well ahead of an important run of fixtures.
“This isn’t the first Salford player we’ve taken on loan in recent months, so I’d like to extend my gratitude to everyone at the club for trusting us with his development and giving us a quality prop for the last 10 games.”
