BARROW AFC defender Mazeed Ogungbo is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after picking up a knee injury against Kilmarnock last Friday night.

Speaking to the club’s official YouTube channel, head coach Stephen Clemence revealed: “Mazeed unfortunately has tweaked  his medial ligament in his knee, so I don’t expect to see Mazeed for a number of weeks.

“Obviously that is disappointing, and it’s disappointing for the boy as well because he has come back in pre-season and he’s been working hard.

“He’s done some good things in some of the game, so it is a shame to lose him, but obviously that opens up an opportunity for someone else.”

Clemence also offered an update on summer signing Sam Barnes.

He said: “I still think Sam is a couple of weeks from being on the training ground.

“I think we’ve got to be patient with Sam. As we know the last 18 months hasn’t ben how he would have like it so we have got to be careful with him.

“We want to get Sam back playing football and staying on the pitch regularly, and once he does that he won’t have a problem because he is a very good player, but we need to make sure he’s fit and well first.”
