BARROW Raiders head coach Paul Crarey has sent a message to supporters after his side’s fantastic home win at the weekend.

Raiders claimed an 8-6 victory over a Sheffield Eagles side, who were looking to climb back up to second spot in the Championship table.

But it was Raiders who came out on top on home turf as they continue to battle against the drop.

The result leaves Raiders in 12th in the table but on the same points as Whitehaven and Swinton Lions who are above them on points difference.

Crarey was delighted with the result and the performance and urged fans to keep backing them.

Speaking to the club’s official YouTube channel, he said: “I’m just pleased for them (the players), for everyone at the club, for all the fans that were here, they were brilliant.

“There was 1500 here and they were excellent. We’ve dropped off a little bit, but stay with us and we will fight hard for you with the squad that we’ve got and the few dual registrations we can bring in.

“It’s been a tough year, but we are still fighting hard to stay in this division.”

Crarey gave credit to his side who he says continue to fight for the shirt.

He added: “I can’t thank the players enough really. If you look at the big picture, they have probably played 24 games up to now with our pre-season games, cup games and league games.

“We’ve probably used the same 21, 22 players throughout that, so it’s been an absolute grind and people have been playing injured.

“We lost two (against Sheffield) with in Stacky (skipper Jarrad Stack) and Greg Worthington, but the effort we put in, and the composure at the end of the game was just what’s been needed for a long time.

“I take my hat off to them for working so hard this week, and coming up with a performance like that against a side that if they had won would have gone back to second in the league.

“It was a great, great win after they towelled us up down there.

“I just thought the composure was really good. We probably missed a couple of opportunities in the first half, and I thought Luke Cresswell at the back pulled off two fantastic tackles to stop them from scoring.

“But all round it was a brilliant performance. I thought young Reagan (Sumner) on the edge was outstanding with his footwork and got us on to the front foot.

“Shawy (Ryan Shaw) in the air at the back end of the game got up for two massive kicks under pressure, and then he got down real low at the end of the game to retain possession when the whistle went.”
