INSPIRED by man-of-the-match Shane Sanderson, Barrow Island pulled off the shock result of the season in defeating Oldham St Anne’s away 25-22.

Island went into this Conference Division Two encounter fighting for survival placed second bottom of the table.

They faced a St Anne's side pushing for promotion who were second in the table.

They trailed 6-0 in the opening minutes before drawing level at 6-6 with a Carl McBain try and Max-Anderson-Moore conversion.

This spurred the Island on playing good rugby, going ahead with a Declan Baines try and Anderson-Moore conversion - 6-12.

The home side hit back to make it 12-12 before Anderson-Moore landed a penalty goal to take it to 12-14.

Island increased their lead with a Ryan Wilson try converted by Anderson-Moore 12-20 only to go behind 22-20.

Anderson-Moore then levelled the scores with a penalty goal.

With the clock ticking down, Ian Irvine dropped a goal for a one-point lead 22-23.

And to seal a fine win Anderson-Moore landed another penalty goal.

Millom went down 28-6 at Devonshire Road to Wigan St Jude’s after trailing 0-16 at the break.

Jonathan Hodgson crossed for a try with Lee Postlethwaite adding a conversion.

Hindpool Tigers kept their unbeaten record nine from nine in their top-of-the-table clash with Widnes West Bank at Brisbane Park.

The Tigers who were ahead 16-8 at the break had to fend off a second-half challenge to take the points at 22-18.

West Banks’ big units came with a plan to upset the Tigers with some strong tackling in the opening stages, but after weathering the storm, the home side took the lead with a fine try from Ryan Kyte who supported a tremendous break from Paul Rickleton, somehow Kyte failed to convert his try.

West Bank hit back with two unconverted tries prior to Rickleton forcing his way over for Jack Osman to convert 10-8.

As half-time approached, the Tigers were crossing for try number three with swift hands enabling Cameron McDermott to dot the ball down, Kyte adding the goal 16-8 at the break.

The visitors were first with points on the board in the second period with a try and conversion only for Kyte to respond with a penalty goal 18-14.

The Tigers edged further ahead when another sweeping attack saw Finn Gooding prise open a gap to cross the whitewash 22-14.

West Bank closed the scoring with a late try.

The Tigers remain top of Division Two of the North West Men’s League, but now face a tough close to the season with six away trips on the bounce.

In Division One, Dalton failed to bring the points home going down 28- 16 at Wigan St Cuthbert’s after leading 6-4 at the break.

Tries came via Owen Bridle, Jordan Jones, and man-of-the-match Ross Bird, who added two goals.

At Dragley Beck, Ulverston cruised to a 38-16 victory over Thatto Heath “A” after leading 16-10 at the break.

Tries came from Jack Aiken (2), Joe Hambley, Matt Dean (2), Brad Williams and Matty Storey, with five goals from Jake Spedding.

In the Cumberland League’s Second Division, Askam went down 12-46 at home to Lowca.

Tries came from Rob Cockayne and Lucas James with Lewis Stables adding two goals.

Tomorrow, Millom will take on Barrow Island in the final of the Knock-Out Cup kick-off 7-30pm.
