BARROW Raiders Ladies suffered a defeat at the hands of Women’s Super League leaders Leeds Rhinos Women.
Rhinos were the visitors to the Northern Competitions Stadium for the latest round off fixtures.
And the away team got off to a flying start, coming up with a try and conversion to lead 6-0 in the first minute.
Raiders, who showed plenty of fight throughout, and reduced the deficit on nine minutes as Sam Norman touched down. Jodie Litherlands was unable to add the extras.
Three minutes later, Rhinos extended their lead with an unconverted try to make it 10-4.
The leaders added further tries on 20 and 22 minutes to go 18-4 up with both kicks being missed.
And just before the hour, Raiders were left with a mountain to climb as Leeds scored another unconverted try to go 22-4 up, which was how things remained at the break.
However, the hosts refused to give up and narrowed the deficit on 54 minutes through Vanessa Temple try, which Litherland converted to make it 22-10.
It was a fairly evenly matched second-half with both sides trying to add to their tally.
But neither was able to get a further breakthrough until the final five minutes of the clash.
And it was the away side who touched down and with the extras added, Rhinos ran out 28-10 victors at the final whistle.
