BARROW Raiders have brought in 20-year-old Reagan Sumner from Wigan as they take on Sheffield Eagles at the Northern Competitions Stadium kick off 3pm.

The young flyer will take over the wing berth from Andrew Bulman who left the field at Batley last Sunday with a strained calf.

A product of Wigan St Jude’s, Sumner is a quality winger who is an important member of the successful Wigan Reserves side, and is a regular trainer with their first-team squad.

Fellow Wigan player Ryan Brown is also in the squad, this will be his fourth outing in Barrows colours which will enable him to play in the final games of the season if required.

However, Wigan’s Jacob Douglas and Harvey Makin are unavailable.

Makin a fans favourite has been loaned to Championship rivals Bradford.

News which disappointed Raiders head coach  Paul Crarey.

He said: “It is a big blow, Harvey has been great for us, but it is Wigan's call what they do.

“They look at it as part of a young players' development going to different clubs, so we just get on with it.

“At least we have Ryan Brown, another hard-working Wigan lad, who has done well in three previous games with us.

“Reagan (Sumner) comes with good reports, he is a very fast winger who is strong in running the ball out of defence.

“We face another big test tomorrow against an Eagle's side that won't want to get beat for the second week running.

“They lost at home 34-22 to Swinton last week so they'll be hurting.

“Their Coach Mark Aston is a disciplinarian, so he will have them fired up for this one. I saw the tape of last week's game with Swinton and they let in some soft tries.”

Crarey is likely to go into battle without half-back Ryan Johnston who has a groin problem, he also took a nasty knock in the Batley game.

If he fails to make it, then Matty Costello will probably move to half-back from his normal centre position.

Costello played at half-back in the defeat of Batley at home a few weeks ago and loves to be involved in the thick of the action.

Shane Toal, who has missed several games of late with a groin injury is set to join the squad, but two players are still on the treatment table.

Greg Burke has a knee injury and Max Clarke a groin injury.

A piece of good news is that long term injured Charlie Emslie is back in light training following a bicep operation.

The former Millom player was having his best season until his injury, and has missed several games.

The Eagles have a strong squad of players which include Aston’s son Cory along with the Farell boys Izaac and Joel, plus dangerous winger Ben-Jones-Bishop.

A key player who makes the team tick is Anthony Thackeray who missed last week’s defeat by Swinton.

The Eagles are in second place in the table and were 54-0 winners over Barrow earlier this season.
