BARROW AFC head coach Stephen Clemence gave an honest assessment after the 3-0 win over FC United of Manchester.

Clemence said there were positives to take from how the Bluebirds performed at Broadhurst Park.

But the head coach also felt that was room for improvement.

He told the club’s official YouTube channel: “I thought it was a good work out for the boys.

“The standard went up again from last week, the intensity went up, and they had players out there playing for FC United that have obviously had careers in the game.

“Like I say I think the intensity went up, which was the main thing for me. It’s been a lot better all week and we took that into the game.

“There was stuff in the game that was very good and there was stuff to improve on, but that will come in time.”

Clemence is not concerned by the improvements required, instead seeing them as a natural evolution having come in to take the reins and trying to implement his style.

He added: “We’ve done a little bit of work on our press this week, we can still get better at that.

“We can still get better on what we look like when we are trying to create attacks in the mid third, what does the movement look like in midfield and what does it look like at the top end of the pitch when our defenders have got the ball.

“I think our decision making has got to improve on the pitch, but again it’s early stages and that takes a few games to sometimes come back, but I just felt at times, especially in the first half, we got into good areas and we either chose the wrong pass or we chose the wrong option.

“It’s stuff that’s good though, because we can look and go back through it on the video, and show the boys and obviously that will help us get better.

“They were some good bits of play as well. I thought all of the goals were good ones. It’s good for the strikers to get their names on the scoresheet again, they will be pleased.

“So there was some good play no doubt about it, but there was still plenty we could get better at.”
