BARROW Raiders Ladies head coach Amanda Wilkinson praised her squad after they secured a vital away win.

Speaking ahead of the trip to take on Huddersfield Giants Women, Wilkinson had described the clash as “must-win”

And win they did as they came away from Laund Hill with a 26-14 success.

The victory leaves them sixth in the Women’s Super League table above Giants and Featherstone Rovers.

There was no hiding Wilkinson’s delight as her side delivered a deserved victory.

She told the club’s social media channels: “They went out there and did everything we asked of them.

“You can see by the grin on my face how happy I am. It’s not a smug grin, I’m just so pleased with how we’ve played.”

Wilkinson believes her side were rewarded for being able to put their game plan into action.

She added: “I’m proud of the girls. We worked so hard and yet again we’ve put a different team out, but I believe this is one of the strongest teams we have put out.

“We’d talked all week about getting the performance that we knew we had in us.

“And that’s what we did. We played with composure, and we talked about communication, we talked about completion and commitment, and they did all four of those really well, and that’s what got them the win

“We’ve lost games by errors. We went to York and defensively we were really strong but gave so many penalties and errors away that they scored on the back of.

“We cut a lot of the errors out (at Huddersfield), so a much more improved performance and we are all buzzing with the result.”

The Ladies face a tough test this weekend with Women’s Super League leaders Leeds Rhinos the visitors to the Northern Competitions Stadium on Sunday (Kick-off 12pm).
