BARROW Raiders Ladies were rewarded for their efforts as they picked up a vital 26-14 victory away to Huddersfield Giants Women.

Speaking ahead of the game, Raiders head coach Amanda Wilkinson has classed the encounter with the Giants as a ‘must-win’ clash.

And her side duly delivered with a dominant display on their travels.

Raiders got off to a good start, putting their first try on the board after just six minutes – Jodie Morley touched down and Jodie Litherlands added the conversion to make it 6-0.

The visitors doubled their lead on 23 minutes – this time it was Emma Hutchinson who scored the try, with Litherlands again adding the extras 12-0.

The hosts hit back just after the half-hour mark, but missed the conversion making it 12-4.

Just before half-time Raiders increased their lead as Vanessa Temple touched down and Litherlands again delivered with the boot 18-4.

Raiders got the second half off to a good start as Temple added her second try on 46 minutes, but Nicole Stewart missed the conversion.

Giants reduced arrears on 61 minutes with a try and conversion making it 22-14.

Four minutes later Raiders were back on the scoreboard. Claire Hutchinson grabbed the try with Beth Lindsay missing the conversion.

That was the last score from either side as Raiders claimed a much-deserved and very welcome victory on the road.
