BARROW AFC have extended the contract of veteran midfielder Sam Foley in a new deal which will keep him at the club until the summer of 2025.

The 37-year-old has played 92 games in all competitions and contributed to 12 goals since joining the club in 2022 following the expiration of his contract at Tranmere.

Last season, he scored four goals and notched five assists in his 48 appearances for the club.

The hardworking and versatile midfielder has a wealth of experience at EFL level having notched an impressive 403 appearances in his extensive career through spells at Newport County, Yeovil Town, Port Vale and Northampton.

His key highlights include achieving promotion to the Championship with Yeovil in 2013 being voted as the club’s player of the year in his two seasons with St Mirren in the Scottish Premiership between 2019 – 2021 and representing the Republic of Ireland at youth level.

The new one-year deal brings boss Stephen Clemence an opportunity to play a technically gifted player who he can trust at this level.

Commenting on the new deal to the club, Barrow AFC Sporting Director, Iain Wood said: “Last season, Sam clearly demonstrated the immense value he brings to the squad.

“He is still eager to continue playing and making a significant contribution to the team and his extensive experience is truly invaluable to the younger members of the squad.”

With 63 days left until the transfer window slams shut, Clemence has already bolstered his ranks by signing three new players.

Young and versatile 20-year-old forward, Katie Kouyate became Clemence’s first summer signing on a three-year deal following the expiration of his contract with Everton earlier this month.

Connor Mahoney then signed from Huddersfield on a two-year deal following a successful season at Gillingham on loan last campaign which saw him register 13 goal contributions.

Defender Sam Barnes was the last player before Foley to put pen-to-paper having signed on an initial one-year deal following the end of his contract at Blackburn Rovers.
