LOCAL rivals Ulverston and Dalton meet at Dragley Beck in Division One of the North West Men’s League.

Dalton are the current league leaders on 19 points with nine wins and a draw from 10 games, while Ulverston are in third with eight points from six games.

The game is in memory of the late Lauren Atkinson and the Dragley Beck side delay naming their final squad as they have players carrying slight knocks.

Definitely out is Jake Spedding who is attending a wedding, while Rowan Smedley is rated at 50-50. Back on board is Eddie Burrows.

Dalton who won the derby game earlier in the season (30-12) welcome back Tom Sharpe, but go without Isaac Barbour.

Coach Dave High said: “It will be a tough game between two local teams and the outcome could come down to who holds their discipline the best.”

In the National Conference Second Division, Millom take on Normanton Knights with Coach Brad Crellin saying: “ I’m starting to get selection headaches with so many players back from injury.

“We are blessed that we didn’t pick up any injuries last week at leaders Shaw Cross.”

Crellin welcomes back former Barrow, Workington and Whitehaven forward Andrew “Bruie” Dawson along with Jackson Evans, Bobby Wright and Jack Newbiggin.

Unavailable is Aiden Wilson.

The Woolybacks are in mid-table with five wins from 13 games, while the Knights in fourth place with eight wins and a draw from their 13 games.

Barrow Island travel to Humberside and face bottom side Myton, who had their home game abandoned on 55 minutes last week against Thornhill.

A brawl erupted which saw a spectator encroach onto the field.

Myton were leading 13-12 at the time.

Barrow Island recorded their first win since April last week defeating Dewsbury Celtic 16-14.

Coach Jamie Curtis said: “I was very pleased with the win and proud as to how we dug deep at the back end of the game to keep our line intact.

“It was also pleasing to have half-back Ian Irvine back after a long lay-off through injury , he helped us to get around the park.”

Curtis makes only one change to last week, Brandon Corrie replaces Jordan Staffieri who is on holiday.

Sunday is a special occasion in the Barrow and District League’s calendar.
