A SWIFT brace of tries within four minutes from Aide Wright ensured Barrow Island gained their first win since mid-April defeating Dewsbury Celtic 16-14 at the John Jefferson Stadium.

On a nice sunny afternoon ideal for open rugby, the game flowed from one end of the field to the other with Celtic taking a fifth-minute lead.

Swift handling across field enabled winger Mick McKinnol to dive in at the corner for an unconverted try 0-4.

Island were soon to hit back after receiving a tap penalty for a high tackle.

They made progress downfield through Jordan Staffieri and Carl McBain.

Ian Irvine carried on the good work by chipping over the Celtic defence, and in like a flash was Declan Baines to dot the ball down, Sam Jones converting 6-4.

Celtic drew level almost on half-time with a penalty goal from Paul Fulston 6-6.

The second half was evenly contested with the Island going ahead for the first time when Jones was the provider for Wright to squeeze in at the corner, Jones failing at goal 10-6.

Finn Dutton was then the provider as Wright crossed wide out for his second, this time Jones made no mistake with a fine touchline conversion 16-6.

Celtic never gave up the chase hitting back with McKinnol going in at the corner after a sweeping attack, Fulston failed at goal 16- 10.

And when Island were penalised for a high tackle, Celtic punished them with Taylor Russell touching down for an unconverted try.

It was a nervy closing minutes for the Island, but they defended their line perfectly.

No joy for Millom as they were well beaten 52-6 at leaders Shaw Cross after trailing 22-6 at the break.

The Woolybacks Man of the Match Rio McQuiston crossed for a consolation try converted by Lee Postlethwaite.

A Rocco Scarpone breath-taking try covering 80 yards sealed victory and a seventh straight win for Hindpool in defeating Newton Storms 28-24 away from home.

The Tigers held a 16-6 half-time lead, but the home side came back strong to level at 24-24.

Then in the final minute, Jack Osman gathered a high kick close to his own line, he went down the short side and parted to Scarpone who pulled clear to score the winning try.

Finn Goodings also played his part running in a hat-trick of tries with Daryl Archer also touching down. Ryan Kyte and Jack Osman added a goal each.

Dalton were also winners in the North West Men’s League with a 44-6 win over Westhoughton Lions.
