BARROW AFC new boy Connor Mahoney is aiming to score and create goals in a blue and white shirt.

The winger has joined the Bluebirds on a two-year deal following the end of his contract with Huddersfield Town.

The tricky winger has spent most of his career in the Championship playing for teams such as the Terriers, Blackburn Rovers, Birmingham City, and Millwall.

Asked what the Bluebirds fans can expect to see, he told the club’s official website: “An attacking winger, who wants to get on the ball.

“I try to create a lot of chances and kind of drop deep and try and dictate play sometimes, but also be a bit of a goal threat, and set-pieces are a big thing for me.

“I guess I just give a good outlet for the team and be a positive influence up the top end of the pitch.

“I just want to get back to get back to playing like I did last season and score as many goals and create as many goals as I can, and to get Barrow to where they want to be.”

Mahoney played under Barrow boss Stephen Clemence while on loan at Gillingham last season, where he registered 13 goal contributions.

And he admits linking back up with the Bluebirds gaffer played a big part in him signing for the club.

He added: “I’m delighted to have come up here and got the deal sorted, and I’m just excited now for what the future holds.

“It’s been in the pipeline for a few weeks. Obviously with the relationship I’ve got with the gaffer (Clemence). I was with him last season at Gillingham and we’ve kept in contact ever since.

“The last few weeks have gone by and we’ve kept in contact and now we’ve got the deal over the line.

“I know what he expects from me and the team, and I know what to expect from him as a manager and as a person, so it was a big factor for me to come here and play.

“I had a couple of more options, but me and the gaffer spoke openly and honestly about what we want from this season, both personally and what the club wants, and both of our aspirations kind of aligned.”

The 27-year-old is now hoping he can play a part in help Barrow to get to the next level.

“Obviously last season they just missed out on the play-offs and I think with a few more additions and a different style of play from the manager, hopefully we can get to where we want to get to by the end of the season, and hopefully it will be a successful one,” he said.
