BARROW AFC attacker Ben Whitfield has agreed to join League One side Burton Albion.

Whitfield couldn’t agree terms on a new deal with The Bluebirds and will depart Holker Street with the club saying he stated he wanted to play at a higher level.

He took to social media to say thanks to Barrow AFC fans.

On X (Formerly Twitter) he said: “Bluebirds… I want to thank you for your massive support the last 2 years at the club. You have made me feel so welcome throughout my time at Barrow.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Barrow.. working under the gaffer temps and woodsy and most of all playing in front of such good fans. I wish you all the very best for the future. Whits34”

The attacking midfielder joins the Brewers on a two-year subject to EFL approval.

He made 40 appearances across all competitions for Barrow last season and weighed in with 15 goal contributions.

The Bluebirds had hoped to agree a contract extension with Whitfield, but the player says he felt the move to Albion was too good to turn down.

Speaking to the Burton Albion official website about the move, Whitfield said: “I’m absolutely delighted, it’s something that’s been coming over the last few days and I’m delighted to get it over the line.

“It’s all happened really quickly, the club contacted my agent and when I heard that there was interest, there was no hesitation.

“I’ve been in League Two for most of my career so this step up is something that I’m looking to cherish, I had a very positive season last time out and I’m looking to continue that here."

Burton Albion Sporting Director Bendik Hareide said: “Ben brings an abundance of energy, creativity and work rate to the team.

“His dribbling skills and agility, combined with his relentless work ethic and abilities to bring goals make him a valuable addition to Burton Albion.”
