BARROW Raiders suffered a heavy home defeat at the hands of Wigan Warriors in their latest Women’s Super League clash.
Amanda Wilkinson’s side went down 46-6 at the Northern Competitions Stadium – the result leaves the Cumbrians third from bottom in the table, having won just one of their six fixtures so far.
This is Raiders third defeat this season at the hands of Warriors, but the hosts were expecting a much closer affair this time around.
But they had no answer to Anna Davies as she scored five tries to send the visitors to the top of the league table.
Warriors broke the deadline on 15 minutes as Davies got her first try of the day, and two minutes later Grace Banks touched down to extend the visitors’ lead.
Isobel Rowe converted both to make it 12-0.
Davies added to her and Wigan’s tally with her second try just after the half-hour mark, and she had her hat-trick before the break, Rowe converting to make it 22-0 at half-time.
Abbie Singleton heaped more misery on the hosts when she scored within a minute of the game restarting.
Barrow broke their duck on 55 minutes – an Emma Hutchinson break saw Jodie Morley go over for what turned out to be Raiders only score of the game.
Jodie Litherland stepped up to add the conversion making it 28-6.
But it was scant consolation as Davies continued to be a thorn in the side of Raiders, scoring her fourth and fifth tries to extend Warriors’ lead.
Kaitlin Hilton and Rease Casey also touched down for the Lancashire side as they ran out 46-6 winners.
