AN UNDER 14s girls rugby team faced torrential rain as they completed a challenge to raise funds to compete in a league this year.

The Hindpool Tigresses under-14s Rugby Team were set a sponsored challenge to complete a 200km run and walk to meet the cost of competing in the North West Girls League in 2024.

The challenge consisted of 600 laps of their home pitch in Brisbane Park on Duke Street in a time of six hours.

Despite the wind and torrential rain, the girls completed this challenge in half the time, in three hours.

The girls work as a team each week, showing support, drive, passion, and determination to work hard to get a win, said chairman Graham Shaw.

He said: "To compete in that league all the games are a minimum of 100 miles away so it is a big commitment from the girls to just play the sport.

"We do not get any kind of help from anywhere but they just love playing. They have got a great team spirit.

"We are really proud of the girls. They do not have it easy. This is their fourth season now. They play a lot of games where they are low on numbers because there is not quite the interest in girls rugby but they never moan they just get on with it."

Hindpool Tigresses are the only U14s Girls Rugby League Team in Barrow. The girls are looking for a local business in Barrow that would like to sponsor them to get a training kit that the team need with the running cost of being a part of playing rugby in this North West League.

The girls have raised over £1,000 up to now and want to say a massive thanks to the organisers, adjudicator, parents, and family that supported them on Tuesday.
