THERE was no happy return for Amanda Wilkinson as Barrow Raiders Ladies were on the receiving end of a heavy defeat away to Leeds Rhinos.

Raiders head coach Wilkinson started out at Leeds as the club’s first women and girls’ development officer, and admitted leading up to the clash that she had a lot of fond memories and a soft spot for the Yorkshire side.

But there is no room for sentiment in the top tier of the women’s game, and Wilkinson was looking to go there a put one over her former club.

Sadly for Wilkinson and Raiders, their hosts handed out a bruising 68-0 defeat to the Cumbrians.

Rhinos were out of the blocks straight away opening the scoring with a try in the very first minute of the game, Lucy Murray scoring following a Raiders fumble.

The kick was missed, but that was of little consequence as four minutes later Evie Cousins crossed for the home side to make it 8-0. Again the chance to add the extras went begging.

The onslaught continued and two minutes later Ella Donnelly outpaced the Raiders players to ground the ball under the sticks. This time Keara Bennett added the two points to make it 14-0.

With under quarter-of-an-hour played it was 20-0 as Izzy Northrop touched down and Bennett added the conversion.

Northrop grabbed her second try on 23 minutes and Bennett again struck true with the kick to make it 26-0.

There was more misery for the visitors just before the half-hour mark as Murray grabbed her second try. This time the kick was missed, and the hosts extended their lead to 30-0.

Just before the break Caitlin Casey scored a try, which was unconverted, and Rhinos led 34-0 at the break.

There was no respite in the second half for Raiders.

Within 11 minutes of the restart, Rhinos were 40-0 up as Northrop completed her hat-trick and Olivia Whitehead added the conversion.

Four minutes later it was 46-0 for the hosts as Sykes touched down and Whitehead converted.

It was 50-0 on just before the hour mark as Grace Short went over in the corner on her Rhinos debut. The conversion was unsuccessful.

Three minutes later Raiders were punished for a loose ball in their own 20 as Bethany Macmillan scored a try and Whitehead added the extras to make 56-0.

Northrop was back in the action on 67 minutes grabbing her fourth try after an offload from Casey. Whitehead’s kick was good to put the Yorkshire side 62-0 up.

And it was Northrop who struck again in the dying seconds claiming her fifth try of the game before Whitehead converted to seal the 68-0 victory.
