BARROW AFC have announced Stephen Clemence as their new Head Coach on an initial two-year contract.
The former Tottenham midfielder made 176 Premier League appearances for Spurs and Birmingham City, before retiring at Leicester City following three seasons at the King Power Stadium.
Following his retirement from football in 2010, Clemence joined Sunderland as a Reserve Team Coach. He was soon promoted to first-team coach at the Black Cats while they were managed by Steve Bruce.
Bruce kept Clemence as part of his coaching staff for the next 12 years as the former Blues midfielder became Bruce’s Assistant Manager at Newcastle United, Aston Villa and Hull City.
Clemence secured his first managerial role when he took over the reins at Gillingham in November 2023.
He improved the side and implemented an attractive style of football but was relieved of his duties at the end of this season after guiding the Gills to a top-half finish.
Following an extensive hiring process, the Club say are ‘delighted’ to welcome Clemence to the SO Legal Stadium.
