BARROW AFC manager Pete Wild says he is expecting a ‘tough game’ against play-off chasing Newport County on Saturday.
The Bluebirds have drawn their last two games in the league against Walsall and Harrogate, but Wild is confident of his side returning to winning ways.
He said: “The stats came back and we had a two per cent chance of losing in our last game against Harrogate.
“We know we did everything right last week and we have to be really confident that we can get our next win.
“It’s important that we carry on focusing on what we’re good at, and to make sure that we’re the best version of ourselves.”
Dean Campbell ensured Barrow went away with a share of the spoils when they visited Rodney Parade earlier in the season.
The 23-year-old scored the equalising goal from the spot in the second half after the hosts had been reduced to 10 men in what was a feisty encounter.
Graham Coughlan’s side are now one of a handful of teams hoping to make a late run for a play-off spot.
They currently sit in 11th position on 55 points, just six points fewer than Barrow who occupy sixth.
Wild was full of praise for Coughlan’s achievements and quickly stressed the importance of nullifying their biggest threats at the weekend.
“We’re expecting it to be a tough game,” Wild added.
“They’re a team that’s done really well this season. Graham has done an unbelievable job there. I’ve watched them a lot this week and they can cause us some big problems.
“They’re a very athletic side, so we need to make sure that we match them with our own athleticism.
“They’re also really good at loading the box when they get the ball wide. We need to defend our own box and keep them as far away from our goal as possible.”
Newport striker Will Evans is one of the leading goal scorers in the division having netted an impressive 20 goals already in the league this season.
“Keeping Will quiet is one of the many keys to success on Saturday,” Wild admitted.
“Scoring 20 goals at any level is an outstanding achievement.
“They also have some really good other midfielders and forwards who can drop on second balls and get crosses into the box, so we need to make sure we know what’s coming.”
