BARROW AFC boss Pete Wild is calling on his midfielders to find the net on a more regular basis.
Robbie Gotts scored the Bluebirds only goal as they lost 3-1 at home to Crewe Alexandra last weekend.
It was Gotts’ first league goal of the season, and Wild admits that Gotts and his fellow midfielders have been urged to weigh in with more strikes.
Speaking to the club’s official Facebook page, Wild said: “We’ve been talking to the midfielders about how we need them to score goals and how we need to get them on the scoresheet more.
“He (Gotts) took his goal really well on Saturday and it was a really well worked move.
“The frustrating things is we didn’t really push on and move on from there.”
While Wild is always searching for more from his players, those in the Barrow engine room have delivered on occasion so far this term.
Kian Spence leads the way for the club’s midfielders in the scoring charts with five league goals, while Sam Foley and Dean Campbell have three apiece, and Gotts has one.
Midfielder turned striker Ben Whitfield leads the way for Wild’s men with seven league goals and 10 in all competitions.
While the defeat against Crewe was disappointing for Wild, he certainly isn’t panicking.
The Bluebirds currently sit fifth in the League Two table, just two points off an automatic promotion spot, although they have played a game more than the clubs in the top three.
But Wild says it is about going back to doing the right things rather than drastically changing things.
“It’s not a case of ‘oh my God what is going on’,” he said. “We just need to get back to what we were doing and cut out the individual errors.
“When we weren’t making those individual errors, we went on a run of 14 games unbeaten, so we just need to get back to that.
“We need to cut out the errors, and tidy things up and if we do that then we will be fine.”
And the Barrow boss is backing his players not to let their heads drop after Crewe ended their unbeaten streak at Holker Street.
He added: “We just need to move on and go again.
“Many of our players have a lot of experience of the highs of the game and the lows.
“They can help the other lads by talking about their experiences and that is what we want to do.
“Talking through experiences will help us all and we know we have a good group here who will work through it together.”
