Barrow AFC have made their second signing of Monday evening, after the arrival of midfielder Mike Jones from Carlisle United.
Jones has signed for the Bluebirds on a two-year contract and joins Luke James at Holker Street, after the former Hartlepool man began his second spell with the club.
The 32-year-old had spent the last four seasons at Carlisle and helped Chris Beech's side haul themselves away from relegation trouble before the coronavirus pandemic put an end to the 2019/20 League Two campaign.
Jones came through the ranks at his hometown club Tranmere Rovers and made his senior debut for the Merseysiders on the final day of the 2005/06 season against Doncaster Rovers.
He spent time on loan with Shrewsbury Town during the next campaign and helped them reach the League Two play-off final.
After being released by Tranmere during the summer of 2008, Jones signed for Bury and went on to make 159 appearances, scoring 23 goals, during three-and-a-half years at Gigg Lane.
During that time, he helped the Shakers win promotion to League One in 2011 and his form in the following campaign led to him signing for Sheffield Wednesday for an undisclosed fee in January 2012.
Although his time at Hillsborough turned out to be brief, the Owls still won promotion to the Championship during his time there and he made ten appearances.
But after falling out of their plans, he returned to League One to play for Crawley Town the following summer before moving back north with Oldham Athletic in 2014.
He then made his way to Cumbria for the first time in 2016 when he joined Carlisle and scored his first goal for the club in a League Cup tie against Derby County, which the Cumbrians lost on penalties.
It was one of only three goals Jones scored in 158 appearances, although the last of those was a memorable long-range strike against Dulwich Hamlet in the first round of the FA Cup last November, in front of the BBC cameras.
