A WIN’S a win and one on the road is even better which was the case for Hindpool Tigers under-15s who kicked off their season in style with a 34-14 victory at Woolston Rovers in the North West Counties Youth League Shield.
Jack Osman was in superb form for Hindpool against the Warrington outfit, scoring a hat-trick of tries as well as kicking a couple of conversions, while Luke Buchanan crossed the whitewash twice himself.
Ethan Buchanan was named man of the match after also scoring himself while there was one final try for Ryan Kyte, which was converted by Lewis Stables.
While the young Tigers were able to get their campaign off to a winning start, they made it difficult for themselves with a low completion rate, a high knock-on count and high penalty count, which has to be rectified for their first league game against Limehurst Lions on Sunday.
Hindpool under-15s would like to thank kit sponsors Holts Roofing Services, AC Electrics, Plasticman Ltd, FellysFund and Kev Kyte Construction Ltd for their support this season.
Roose Pioneers under-15s didn’t get off to the best of starts in the Shield as they were edged out 28-20 by Clock Face Miners.
In the under-16s Plate competition, the Pioneers had better luck as they put their difficult start to their league campaign behind them to win 22-12 at Leyland Warriors while Askam were awarded a walkover after hosts Latchford Giants were unable to raise a team.
