Barrow Island coasted into the semi-finals of the Barton Townley Cup following their 30-0 victory over Walney Central at Rating Lane, writes Paddy McAteer.
Joe Mallinson was on top form and was the driving force behind and Island side well supported by Matt Parkinson and former Cents player Adam Nicholson.
Despite the efforts of Matty Elliott, Stu Tippett, Jordan Staffieri and Nichols, Cents failed to score and it’s Island that will now face Dalton in the semi-finals, which will be played at Craven Park.
Former Dalton centre Allister McEwan was one of six try scorers, with the others coming from Nathan Sneesby, Max-Anderson-Moore, Liam Campbell, Shane Sanderson and Sam Jones, who converted three of the tries.
Ulverston and Roose Pioneers will have to try for a third time as the Dragley Beck field was unplayable. The winners take on Askam in the next round.
On day one of the National Conference League, Askam went down 26-12 to Oldham St Annes at Fallowfield Park. The visitors were always in the driving seat, building up a 14-0 lead before the home side touched down through Owen Bridle, with Brad Jackson converting.
Oldham went in for an unconverted try prior to Bridle and Jackson again adding six points for 12-18 at the break.
In a close second half, the visitors crossed for a brace of unconverted tries to take the two points on offer.
