Dalton United produced their best performance of the season in Division Two of the West Lancashire League as they beat third-placed Freckleton 5-1 at Railway Meadow.
Club stalwart Gareth Jones bagged a hat trick and Keith Holmes a brace in a fantastic win for Dalton, who lifted themselves up to 11th in the table.
Furness Cavaliers also had a great win as they beat Burnley United 4-2 at Rampside Road. Gareth Killip, Callum Lamb, Lee Simpson and an own goal made up their tally, although the win did come at a cost as Cavs’ Damo Thompson suffered a suspected broken collarbone.
League leaders Walney were well beaten 3-0 by an impressive Rossendale, who moved to within goal difference of them. Ill discipline cost the seasiders as they conceded two goals when they had been reduced to ten men with the new sin bin rule.
In the Premier Division, struggling Vickerstown lost 3-1 away at Tempest United, Jackson Round scoring their consolation effort in the last minute.
In the First Division, Millom lost 2-1 at home to Eagley. However, the game saw one of the area’s most lethal strikers reach a major landmark as Carl Waters scored his 500th goal for the club. Hawcoat Park drew 0-0 at Milnthorpe Corinthians, while a Ben Phizacklea goal couldn’t stop Askam United losing 2-1 at Stoneclough.
Ulverston Rangers drew 1-1 at Haslingden St Marys thanks to a goal from Sam Hingley, but it was better news for Crooklands Casuals as they beat Hesketh Bank 4-1 with their goals coming from Ben Stoker (2), Rikki Gallagher and Lloyd Williams.
Holker Old Boys visited Emley AFC in the North West Counties but came back empty handed following a 3-2 defeat that slid them further down the First Division North table.
The day started well for Holker when Tom Dawson put them ahead after ten minutes, but Emley struck back almost instantly and went ahead early in the second half.
Dawson struck again with ten minutes remaining to level matters but Emley found a last-minute winner from Conor Glavin.
In Division Two of the Furness Premier League, Haverigg United reserves beat Barrow Wanderers reserves 4-2, with their goals coming from Jake Batty (2), Craig Armsrong and Rio McQuistan. Brad Hamilton and Nath Collet scored in vain for Wanderers.
Bootle reserves drew 2-2 with Millom St James. Ellis McGlennon and Matty Lampitt were on target for Bootle, while Mark O’Brien scored both of Millom’s efforts.
Furness Rovers A beat Walney Island A 5-1 thanks to goals from Jamie Edgley, Jack Smith (2) and Kai Miah (2), Zak Quayle scored Walney’s consolation.
Britannia reserves beat Holker Old Boys A 5-2 with goals from Dillon James (2), Jake Stockdale (2) and Jack Littlehales. Saul Kemp and Danny Sawyer were on target for Holker.
