The weather mostly had its way during the first round of matches in this season’s Furness District Cups last weekend, but six ties managed to survive and Dalton United under-13s more than made the most of this.
In the under-14 competition, Dalton ran riot in defeating Swarthmoor under-13s 11-1 at Furness College, with five of their goals coming from Alex Hustings.
Their other strikes came from Charlie Morgan (2), Josh Williams, Max Worrall, Kyle Moscrop, and Keaton Grydziuszko as the home side breezed into the quarter finals.
They were joined by Furness Cavaliers under-13s, who were pushed all the way in defeating Askam United under-13s, for whom goals from Max Pucknell and Liam Smith (2) weren’t quite enough.
Cav’s under-12 side also came through in their competition, as they defeated Holker Old Boys 5-2 in the quarter finals with Oliver Goodwin (2), Ashton Holt and Harrison Shuttleworth among their scorers, while Jack Tyerman struck twice for Holker in the first half.
Jack Dixon and Josh Robinson both scored as Crooklands Casuals Oranges won 2-0 away at Hawcoat Park Minions in the first round.
In the under-16 competition, Vickerstown under-15s sent a reminder as to why they were so dominant last season, as they hammered Crooklands Casuals under-15s 8-1 at Biggar Bank.
In the other tie to survive the rain, Walney Island ran out 4-2 winners against Holker Old Boys under-15 Colts, but nine other matches will have to be rearranged after being postponed.
