In what is probably their last game of the season, Roose Pioneers under-15s claimed a creditable 12-12 draw at in-form Langworthy Reds in the North West Counties Youth League last Sunday
The much bigger Salford side started the game downhill but great defence from Farren, Morgan and Smith in particular halted their progress.
However, the Reds eventually managed to get on the outside where their big centre came on strong and scored underneath the sticks, making the conversion an easy one.
This seemed to spur the Pioneers side on however and good charges from Shepperd, Hadwin and Cohen had Langworthy on the back foot.
It was from some brilliant defence from Burns and Wright that saw the Reds spill the ball.Swift hands through Taylor Roberts and Matty Roberts saw Ellis Archer squeeze in the corner for a try right on half-time that he converted for 6-6.
The Reds hit the front again when their big front rower did well to ground the ball despite several defenders trying to stop him. The full back converted for 12-6 going into the last ten minutes.
However, it was all Pioneers from here on in and they got their reward when swift hands saw Archer go over for his double in the opposite corner.
A difficult kick on the touchline was nailed by Archer to draw level at 12-12 for a deserved share of the spoils.
Askam had a tough day on the road in what was their penultimate game of the season in Group 2, as they went down to a 30-16 defeat at Rochdale Mayfield.
