Barrow Island stayed on course for a play-off place in Division Two of the Conference following their 32-22 win at Clock Face Miners, writes Paddy McAteer.
Island were up and running going into a convincing 22-0 lead before the home side came back to 22-12 at the break. The hosts stretched their lead to 32-16 before the Face closed the scoring with a converted try.
Dan White made a welcome return after a two-month lay off with a foot injury and put in a good performance. Island’s tries came from Aiden Wright (2), Adam Jackson, Carl McBain, Adam Nicholson and Ian Irvine.
Askam suffered a second heavy defeat in three days, as they lost 58-4 to Ince Rose Bridge at Fallowfield Park and had Kier Shepherd sin-binned for foul play. Home man of the match Grady Slater crossed for a consolation try.
In the First Division of the North West Mens League, Ulverston lost out 25-24 at home to Latchford Albion. The Dragley Beck side trailed 25-12 midway through the second half but hit back with two converted tries only to fail by one point.
Ulverston’s tries came from Jake Spedding (2), Joe Akrigg and James Porter with four goals from the boot of Marc Saunders.
In Division Three Roose Pioneers came back from Crosfields A with the points after a 26-10 win. Jack Torkington crossed for a brace of tries with other scores coming from Chris Larkin, Josh Tranter and Mike Light.
Hindpool Tigers failed to raise enough players for their trip to Chorley Panthers.
The CJS Knockout Cup final between Dalton and Millom A scheduled for Wednesday has been postponed due to Millom having to travel to Woolston on Thursday night in a rearranged Conference game.
