In this week’s Deltawaite Ltd Furness Senior Citizens’ League, the games in Division One went the way of the form book with the top four all winning and while the bottom four all suffered heavy defeats.
Leaders Hawcoat Park defeated Roose 8-3, with their form men being John Gill and Tonie Moxham while Mike Watt and Graham Gedling responded for Roose.
Second-placed Co-op were too strong for bottom club Barrow Island A, winning 9-2. That score was repeated as Barrow Island’s first team beat Co-op A at Dane Avenue.
At Cavendish Park, the Ryder brothers, Dave and Martin, were amongst Co-op’s winners, whilst the Islands Brian Linklater and Mick Jones secured their points. Co-op A remain second-bottom following the loss to Barrow Island, for whom Dave Dent and Eddie Harkins who both enjoyed single-figure wins.
Third-placed Lindal played host to Walney Park, winning 8-2 in the process with four single-figure winners amongst their ranks.
The remaining top four side, King Alfred, were 7-3 winners at Askam with Tony George’s 21-9 the stand-out win.
Ulverston Cons gave their league standing a boost in beating Dalton CC 7-3. The result saw them change places with Keith Birkbeck (21-9) and Shane Barron heading up events.
West Shore were comfortable 8-2 winners against visiting Salthouse, with Brian Beard Alan Crighton and Brian Chelton all winning 21-6.
The remaining game saw Hawcoat Park A and Kirkby share the games with the former claiming the aggregate to win 6-4. Results of note were single-figure wins for Jack Curphey (21-7) and Jimmy Bawden (21-9), which proved to be the difference between the two sides.
Glaxo maintained their grip on Division Two by beating Co-op ’ 8-2. There were three single-figure winners in Mike Askew, Rod Lewis and Terry Rhode.
Prior to this week, Walney Park A and West Mount were tied in second place.
Whilst the Mount were winning 8-3 at Hawcoat Park B, their rivals were going down to a heavy home defeat in losing 9-2 to Askam A.
For West Mount, Colin Taylor (21-6), Ken Robinson and Steve Thwaites were prominent, while at Walney Park it was a good all round team effort that secured Askam a fine win.
Bottom side Salthouse A shared the games with Hawcoat Park C, but were denied their first win by missing out on the aggregate points.
West Mount A were 8-2 winners at home to Walney Park B. King Alfred A shared the games with Roose A, but claimed the aggregate points for a 6-4 win. The final game in the division saw West Shore A win 8-3 at Dalton CC A.
