A field of 56 entrants from eight Cumbrian golf clubs took part in the Barrow Golf Club Ladies’ Charity Open which was held at Rakesmoor Lane last Friday and raised money for St Mary's Hospice.
The course was in excellent condition, but a strong wind and squally showers provided a stern test for the competitors.
Two teams were tied on 77 points at the end but the winners on countback were Joan Cresswell (Barrow), Eileen Grisedale (Barrow), Mary Rhodes (Ulverston), and Sue Shaw (Barrow).
Furness Golf Club held their Robinsons Open last Saturday and the pairing of Darren Guest and Ben Rebello claimed the trophy, with their score of 47 points putting them four clear of runners-up Derek Lipscombe and John Chorley.
Their Midweek Stableford competition was won by Steven Carruthers (47 points) the previous Tuesday, with runner-up Martin Baker (43 points), finishing just ahead o third-placed Adam Broadbent (42 points).
The Ladies Captains Day at Grange Fell was won by Mrs D Davidson, who finished ahead of runner-up Mrs D Tidd on countback, with Mrs A Clough a point behind in third.
