In the Premier Division of the North West Men’s League, Walney Central crashed to a 40-20 home defeat at the hands of leaders West Bank Bears last Saturday.
Ellis Rea - son of Barrow Raiders assistant coach Steve - crossed for his first try at senior level with Jordan Staffieri and Elliott Bibby also touching down.
Two goals each came from the boots of Bibby and Dave Nicholson, but West Bank proved to be too strong as Cents were unable to back up the previous week’s victory against Halton Farnworth.
Ulverston were a little bit ring rusty as they played their first game in over three weeks they went down 45-12 at league leaders Wigan St Cuthberts in Division One.
The Dragley Beck outfit’s tries came from James Porter and Dan Akrigge, with a brace of goals from Connor Saunders.
In Division Three, Woolston Rovers A failed to raise enough players for their scheduled trip to Roose Pioneers.
In Division Two of the National Conference League, Askam made the long journey to Humberside with just 16 players, but they came out of the game with credit in their 28-6 defeat at the hands of Beverley.
The Humbersiders went into a 10-0 lead without Askam having ball in hand, but they dug deep and crossed through Dale Lampton with Brad Jackson adding the goal.
It was 12-6 until the final minute of the half when the home side went in for a converted try.
The home side were restricted to just ten second-half points as the Villagers defended their line with a gutsy display in which the returning Jamie Butler shone along with Lampton and young Kyle Jefferson.
