Top-of-the-table Instant Noodles suffered a major upset in the Pulse North Western Sunday League as SOD produced a clinical counter attacking display to beat them 6-3.
A Phil Edmonson hat-trick, along with Jack Duignan, Jack Gosney and Mark Jewula strikes, sent Noodles crashing to their first defeat of the season, with a Chris Wraighte hat-trick proving scant consolation.
It looked like it was going to be plain sailing as Noodles took the lead early on, but a quickfire double turned the match on its head. First, Gosney showed terrific perseverance to ride the challenges of two defenders before calmly slotting home, followed by a powerful Edmonson strike.
Any thoughts Noodles would come out firing in the second half were put to bed, as a poor pass from Sam Williamson was pounced upon Edmonson, who then rounded him to slot home for his second of the game.
Noodles were all over the place at the back at this point, as Duignan rolled the ball to Edmonson to fire in for his hat-trick before great work from Jewula allowed Duignan himself to curl home into the bottom corner to make it 5-1.
That finally woke Noodles up, as Wraighte pulled two back in quick succession, but the fightback was put to bed with four minutes remaining, as Jewula’s deflected strike made the three points safe for SOD.
Noodles’ day got worse as both of their main challengers survived potential banana skins to claim valuable wins.
Four goals from Andy Hainey helped Our Manager’s a Midget to a 9-1 win over Champagne Super Rovers, while Dean Crossman (2), Horizont Pllana (2) and Martin Clarke were on the scoresheet for Topshine in a 6-0 defeat of fourth-placed Stanton. In the other game of the night Blood, Sweat and Beers were 7-2 winners over Dalton Dragons.
